Plateau State Government commenced its post-COVID-19 economic recovery plan with the re-acquisition of the Brewery Agro Research Company (BARC) Farms in Zallaki village of Bassa Local Government Area.
Barc farms, a subsidiary of the state-owned Jos International Breweries that was sold to a private farmer 24 years ago. Governor Lalong said the re-acquisition of BARC Farms was a very bold step to return the pride of Plateau State and create jobs by reviving commercial agriculture which the farm was reputed for.
As part of efforts to revamp the moribund farm to full functionality, Governor Simon Lalong and members of his cabinet visited the farm on in June 2020 to flag off the allocation of one thousand hectares of farmland to members of All Farmers Association, interested civil servants, pensioners, political office holders and members of the host community under a temporary arrangement.
ASTC & M Ltd deployed all available resources and manpower to BARC Farms as the government set sights on revamping the farm. ASTC started by conducting Farm inspection for possible cultivation of allotted farm lands
With further demonstration of cultivation services that ASTC&M can render, Both to intending farmers and those who where newly allotted lands for farming.
Services demonstrated by ASTC&M Ltd at BARC Farms included:
i. Ploughing for land preparation.
ii. Harrowing for pulverization of the soil.
iii. Maize planter. iv. Fertilizer spreader.
