As the farming season approaches, the Agricultural Services Training Center and Marketing Limited (ASTC&M Ltd) has organized a specialized training program for rice farmers in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The training, held on Monday, March 21, at the ASTC center in Shendam, aimed to equip farmers with essential agricultural knowledge and best practices to enhance productivity. Farmers received expert guidance on site selection, soil testing, land preparation, seed selection, planting techniques, fertilizer application, weed control, pest and disease management, harvesting, and marketing strategies.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of ASTC&M Ltd, Dr. Susan Bentu, the Secretary of ASTC, Mr. Lukai Wilfred Jemcwat, emphasized the importance of the training in preparing farmers for the upcoming season. He reassured them of ASTC’s commitment to supporting local farmers and enhancing agricultural development in Plateau State.
Mr. Jemcwat further highlighted that the training was part of ASTC’s broader initiative to strengthen its partnership with farmers, ensuring they are well-equipped with modern techniques to boost yields and improve food security. He also noted that such training programs would be held periodically to sustain knowledge sharing and continuous improvement in farming practices.
